Most New Zealanders haven’t been overseas in at least a year. There are few things you can do now that can make your travel more seamless when you do decide to venture around the Tasman. Check out these five ways to get ready to travel again.
Check for any airline or holiday credits due to you
If you were due to travel during lockdown and had travel cancelled due to Covid-19, check whether you have airline or accommodation credit to use.
Check your leave entitlements
It’s a good idea to get leave approved prior to booking your travel and check your workplace’s policies for returning to work after travel.
Make sure your New Zealand passport is still valid
Dust off your passport and check that you’re still good to fly. To travel to Australia, you’ll only need your passport to be valid during your dates of travel. But some Pacific Islands, like the Cook Islands, require a passport that’s valid for at least six months after your travel dates. Apply well ahead of time and allow at least 10 working days. An urgent service will be twice as expensive as the standard service.
Make sure you have insurance cover
Travel insurance can provide valuable cover for unexpected hiccups, like if you fall ill and can no longer travel. Shop around for policies and choose the one that’s right for you.
